8 Tips to Prevent a Slip & Fall in the Bathroom

Your bathroom is meant to be a place to relax and enjoy some you time. However, it is also known as one of the most dangerous rooms in the home, especially due to slip & falls. This can be a risky situation for anyone, from children to the elderly, so we have put together a list of ways to help prevent them. It is important to do what you can to keep your family safe in this space.

1: Keep the Bathroom Clean & Dry

Give your bathroom a good scrub down at least once a week to prevent soap & dirt residue from building up. If you keep up with this, it will help keep things clean & slip-proof.

2: Ditch the Throw Rugs

A lot of times, these are the reason for a slip and fall. You can either remove them or try to secure them with double sided tape.

3: Place Grabs Bars or Rails Around the Shower

These provide extra stability & help to keep your balance when exiting the shower or tub. It’s a simple fix that can make a huge improvement, if needed.

4: Add a Handheld or Adjustable Shower Head

This helps to maneuver more freely, reducing movement in the shower. Also, it helps to use it while sitting safely on a bath seat or bench.

5: Use a Shower Seat

This is a much better option than sitting on the side of the tub. You can sit comfortably without any risk of slipping.

6: Non-Slip Everything

If you still want to use tiles and mats, it is better to choose non-slip ones. There are tiles where the texture prevents slips & are more suitable for wet surfaces.

7: Keep your Bathroom Well Lit

You are less likely to fall if you can see the space you’re walking clearly. Update lightbulbs from dim to well lit, to help with this.

8: Take Your Time

Rushing only increases your chance of slipping or falling. Take care of yourself and don’t rush.
